Jim Playsted

In March 2011 Jim Playsted joined Harcourts Hobart Real Estate, earning a rising star award, qualifying as an auctioneer, making the Tasmanian Harcourts top 20 within 12 months of commencement and topping Harcourts Tasmanian sales for January 2013. Despite the worst market conditions for decades - Jim’s significant combination of negotiating skills, personal energy and business experience has produced 41 property settlements worth over $19.5M in just 24 months – and critically for vendors, averaging 95% of his listed prices. Prior to real estate Jim had a successful business career in the construction/mining and engineering supply sector commencing in Tasmania before moving to several interstate assignments and rising to GM Marketing & Sales for a global brand late in 1999 – a company exceeding A$1B in sales and employing 1200 staff within Australia & NZ. During his career Jim has contributed variously as a board member of the Tasmanian Chamber of Industry (TCCI), Australian Antarctic Foundation (AAF), University of Tas Antarctic & Sthn Ocean CRC, the Institute of Quarrying of Australia (IOQA), the Beacon Foundation and the Choir of High Hopes Hobart Inc. Jim is well regarded for his strategic thinking, creative business solutions and negotiating skills. He formed and ran JAM Consulting between 2006 – 2009 before standing for Parliament as a pro industry candidate in the 2010 Tasmanian state election, achieving over 4,000 primaries, 800 votes short of election at his first attempt for the electorate of Lyons. Jim makes himself available for charitable auctions with community groups and is a popular speaker on a range of subjects including current pet projects Hobart’s Choir of High Hopes street choir and the Spring Bay Maritime and Discovery Centre Museum project on Tasmania’s East Coast where he is an active community member and Rotarian.

Kerri-Louise Hooper

Rod McMahon
